Admissions

Students must be admitted to the USU School of Graduate Studies. For inquiries, call (435) 797-1189 or apply online at: www.usu.edu/graduateschool/apply. General admission requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Official transcript of all university/college coursework
  • GRE/MAT exam scores
  • (40th percentile minimum)
  • Three letters of recommendation

Admission deadlines are March 15 for summer semester, June 15 for fall semester, and October 15 for spring semester.

Requirements

The graduate students in the Master of Education (MEd) program will meet the following objectives:

  • Gain a basic understanding of issues related to research methodologies and diversity in HPER programming.
  • Master the departmental core of the historical and philosophical foundation of physical education, psychology of sport, biophysical aspects of human performance, curriculum in physical education, motor learning and analysis of physical education.
  • Allow the student to be involved in the development and completion of a creative project related to education. Also experience an internship in teaching physical education.
  • Help the educator approach the status of master teacher.

The mission of the graduate program in Health, Physical Education and Recreation is to provide the highest quality instruction, advising and faculty-student interaction. We also incorporate research, scholarly, and creative activities into the learning experience and maintain local, regional, and national visibility in research activities. 

Courses are delivered via interactive broadcast to various USU campuses and centers throughout the state of Utah. Students enrolling in the program will be required to attend classes at one of the campuses or centers.

This program is most applicable to individuals already teaching or coaching physical education in a K-12 setting, but is not limited to these areas.
